Consultation and Planning
Otoplasty is performed to correct prominent, asymmetrical, or misshapen ears. Ear structure will be evaluated, and concerns such as protrusion or irregular folds will be addressed. A customized plan will be created to restore balance and symmetry. This procedure is suitable for adults and children over the age of five.
Procedure Details
Typically performed under local anesthesia with sedation for adults (or general anesthesia for children), the procedure involves small incisions behind the ears. Cartilage is reshaped or repositioned closer to the head, and excess tissue may be removed. Incisions are closed with fine sutures to minimize scarring.
Recovery
A protective headband is worn for the first week to support healing and maintain ear position. Mild swelling and discomfort are expected. Most patients resume normal activities within a week, with full recovery taking a few weeks. Aftercare includes avoiding pressure on the ears during sleep and physical exertion.
Results
Otoplasty provides lasting correction of ear shape and position, restoring symmetry and facial balance. Results are permanent and help patients feel more confident and at ease with their appearance.
